On 16 January 2025, the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI), the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), and UOB entered into a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This strategic partnership is designed to bolster cross-border business collaboration and investment opportunities, particularly in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) and Southeast Asia.

Unlocking Southeast Asia’s Economic Potential

Southeast Asia is on track to become the world’s fourth-largest economy by 2030, with a combined GDP projected to reach US$4.5 trillion. Recognising this potential, the MOU aims to leverage the strengths of SCCCI, ACCCIM, and UOB to promote regional connectivity, enhance business opportunities, and drive investments across the region.

Datuk Ng Yih Pyng, President of ACCCIM

“This collaborative MoU demonstrates our commitment to forge closer cooperation and strategic partnerships between three parties to maximise benefits for our members and customers. This would unlock new avenues for businesses, fostering sustainable investment growth in 11 diverse sectors as promoted in the JS-SEZ. Amongst these include electronics and electrical products, energy, logistics, food security, tourism and digital economy.” Datuk Ng Yih Pyng, President of ACCCIM

The JS-SEZ is central to this initiative, highlighting the potential for economic integration between Singapore and Malaysia. By improving connectivity, enhancing its value proposition, and generating employment opportunities, the JS-SEZ is poised to become a model of cross-border collaboration.

A Vision for Regional Economic Progress

The partnership underscores the collaborative potential of SCCCI, ACCCIM, and UOB in shaping Southeast Asia’s economic future. By combining resources, expertise, and networks, the initiative seeks to drive sustainable growth, strengthen regional connectivity, and position the JS-SEZ as a hub for cross-border collaboration and innovation.
