Kuala Lumpur, 4 February 2025 – The Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) celebrated the Chinese New Year 2025 with a grand gathering, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening economic and trade ties between Malaysia and China. In his address, MCCC President Loo Kok Seong extended his warmest New Year greetings and shared the Chamber’s vision for deeper collaboration in business, tourism, and innovation.

Strengthening Bilateral Trade and Investment

President Loo highlighted MCCC’s continuous efforts in driving Malaysia-China economic relations. Over the past year, the Chamber has hosted high-quality business events to foster cross-border partnerships and stimulate regional economic growth.

A key highlight for 2025 is the 15th Malaysia-China Entrepreneurs Conference, scheduled for August in Guizhou, China. As an emerging industrial hub with rich natural resources, Guizhou presents vast business opportunities for both Malaysian and Chinese enterprises. MCCC anticipates that the conference will serve as a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral trade and investment, offering businesses a platform to explore new markets and enhance cooperation.

Looking ahead to 2026, Malaysia’s Tourism Year, MCCC aims to leverage this opportunity to attract more Chinese tourists by collaborating with government bodies and tourism industry players. China remains one of Malaysia’s largest sources of international visitors, and increased tourism is expected to drive economic growth, benefiting local SMEs and fostering greater cultural exchanges.

Call for Policy Support and Diversification of Economic Cooperation

Recognizing the challenging global economic landscape, President Loo emphasized the need for government initiatives to optimize Malaysia’s investment climate. He urged policymakers to introduce stronger SME support, particularly in areas such as digital transformation, workforce development, and green economic growth, to bolster business competitiveness and attract foreign investment, including from China.

He also outlined three key focus areas to further Malaysia-China economic ties:

  1. Diversifying trade and investment by exploring new industries such as green energy, artificial intelligence, and medical technology.
  2. Encouraging joint investments under the Belt and Road Initiative, promoting third-party market cooperation.
  3. Enhancing people-to-people exchanges in culture, education, and tourism, ensuring economic partnerships extend beyond business and strengthen bilateral friendships.

He further stressed the importance of technological cooperation, urging both nations to leverage their potential by sharing technology, diversifying supply chains, and enhancing regional collaboration within ASEAN. He highlighted the necessity of positioning technology as a driver of global economic progress, rather than a tool for geopolitical competition.

Acknowledging Contributions and Looking to the Future

During the event, President Loo extended special recognition to MCCC Secretary General, Mr. Tan In Fong, who also served as Chairman of the New Year Celebration Organizing Committee. He commended Mr. Tan’s leadership, dedication, and extensive network in ensuring the event’s success and fostering stronger business connections.

In closing, President Loo called on all stakeholders to seize new opportunities, navigate challenges, and work together to elevate Malaysia-China economic cooperation to greater heights.
