KUALA LUMPUR,9 February 2025-The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) welcomes the Ministry of Human Resources’ progressive initiative to provide free medical treatment for work related injuries at Perkeso (SOCSO) panel clinics for all contributors, which aligns with global best practices in safeguarding the workers’ welfare
This policy, which eliminates the need for upfront payments at over 1,400 designated clinics nationwide, represents a significant advancement in Malaysia’s social security system. It underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare for workers, particularly those from vulnerable and lower-income groups
ACCCIM believes that the elimination of upfront payments and reimbursements would reduce financial strain on the workers seeking medical treatment while assuring them that their health are protected
Towards this end, we would like to emphasise the importance of ensuring its seamless implementation, considering the following key areas
Clinic Readiness: All 1,400 Perkeso panel clinics must be fully informed, equipped and provide medical services with clear guidelines to avoid delays in medical treatment
Streamlined Processes: Bureaucratic hurdles must be minimised to ensure hassle-free in accessing timely medical care
Enhanced Accessibility: While contributors can seek treatment at non-panel clinics in remote areas and claim reimbursement later, ACCCIM urges the government to expand the panel clinic network for inclusive access
Awareness Campaigning: Employers should actively inform employees about this initiative, ensuring the workers’ welfare protection and workplace safety to reduce work-related accidents.
ACCCIM would like to urge the businesses and employers to collaborate with the government to ensure this initiative benefits all workers, balancing between the workers’ welfare and a safety in workplace for maintaining a healthier and productive workforce
