KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 — The Malaysian Association for Arts, Live Events, Concerts and Festival (ALIFE) has welcomed the announcement by YB Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications, of a landmark RM10 million annual government grant to support high-impact concerts and live events throughout Malaysia.

In addition to the grant, organisers who engage at least 30% Malaysian talent will now be eligible for a 30% production cost rebate, providing a powerful incentive for local talent inclusion while boosting the live events industry’s growth and global appeal.

The announcement was made during ALIFE’s EID Synergy Networking Event held on 18 April 2025, and marks a milestone in public-private collaboration aimed at uplifting Malaysia’s cultural and creative economy.

Empowering Growth, Elevating Local Talent

“We are deeply encouraged by the government’s recognition of the live events industry as a vital contributor to Malaysia’s cultural economy,” said Dato’ Alan Foo, Chairman of ALIFE.

“This grant — paired with a rebate mechanism that rewards organisers for hiring Malaysian talent — is a powerful step forward. It empowers organisers, attracts international acts, and ensures meaningful participation for our local ecosystem.”

Through the MyCreative Ventures platform, qualifying organisers can claim up to 30% of their production costs, paving the way for larger-scale productions and stronger economic opportunities for local artists, crew members, and event vendors.

Strategic Industry Initiatives Unveiled

The event, which also saw the attendance of YB Teo Nie Ching, Deputy Minister of Communications, served as the launchpad for ALIFE’s latest initiatives to reinforce industry resilience and rebuild public trust:

  • ALIFE Members Portal – A centralised digital platform for membership management, advocacy, and transparent governance.
  • ALIFE Encore – A loyalty and engagement programme inviting fans to support the live events industry through exclusive experiences.
  • TiketSelamat Campaign – A nationwide initiative to combat ticket fraud and scalping, helping restore trust in Malaysia’s ticketing ecosystem.

“The 30% rebate links public investment with local participation — that’s smart policy,” said Brian Johnson Lowe, Deputy Chairman of ALIFE. “It raises the bar for everyone while keeping Malaysian talent at the centre of the stage.”

A Unified Vision for a Thriving Industry

ALIFE remains committed to working closely with the Ministry of Communications, MyCreative Ventures, and all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the RM10 million grant and rebate scheme are implemented with transparency, equity, and high impact.

This collaborative initiative not only strengthens Malaysia’s position as a leading destination for world-class live events, but also fosters inclusive growth across the entire ecosystem — from organisers and performers to fans and local businesses.
