KUALA LUMPUR, 27 FEBRUARY 2025 – In an effort to strengthen the franchise ecosystem in the ASEAN region, the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP), in collaboration with the Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA), will bring together industry players, investors, and franchise practitioners from within and outside the country at the ASEAN Franchise Convention (AFC) and the Malaysia International Franchise Exhibition (FIM).

This initiative aligns with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship this year. AFC will be held on May 7 and 8, while FIM will take place from May 8 to 10 at Halls 1 and 2 of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
This prestigious event is expected to serve as a premier platform featuring strategic sharing sessions, franchise exhibitions, and business networking opportunities to further boost the regional franchise industry

According to YB Datuk Ewon Benedick, Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, this initiative reflects Malaysia’s commitment to advancing the franchise sector as a key driver of regional economic growth
This convention and exhibition not only promote local franchise brands to the global stage but also attract foreign investment into the country and open up more entrepreneurial opportunities for Malaysians and ASEAN citizens,” he stated

Additionally, the ministry is committed to implementing various initiatives to support the development of this industry, including the introduction of the National Franchise Policy 2030 (DFN2030), which was recently launched. DFN2030 aims to strengthen Malaysia’s franchise ecosystem and expand market access both domestically and internationally. This policy comprises five key pillars: improving policies and governance, promoting franchising as the preferred business model, enhancing the capacity and capability of franchise entrepreneurs, optimizing access to financial assistance, and increasing market penetration at domestic and global levels.

Meanwhile, MFA Chairman, Datuk Dr. Radzali Hassan, emphasized the importance of this event in enhancing the competitiveness of local franchises on the international stage. “Malaysia’s franchise industry has demonstrated its ability to grow rapidly and compete globally. Through this platform, we hope to encourage more collaboration and innovation within the ASEAN franchise sector,” he stated during a press conference on AFC and FIM in Kuala Lumpur

With this year’s theme, “Shaping the Future of Franchising in ASEAN: Sustainability, Digitalization, and Growth”, AFC will focus on aspects of franchise sustainability, digitalization, and industry growth. AFC’s primary target audience includes franchise industry players, licensees, investors, franchise representatives, and government officials from ASEAN countries

FIM has also been recognized by the World Franchise Council (WFC) and the Asia Pacific Franchise Confederation (APFC). This year’s event is expected to attract hundreds of franchise brands from various sectors, including food and beverage (F&B), retail, services, education, and more. The program is also expected to draw over 30,000 visitors, with franchise sales projected to reach RM600 million.

According to Datuk Dr. Radzali Hassan, more than 70% of exhibition space has already been booked by over 80 local and international franchise brands. As such, MFA encourages entrepreneurs—whether current or aspiring franchisors—to participate in FIM to promote their business packages, products, and services.
