Kuala Lumpur, February 8, 2025 – The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) has expressed its support for a new initiative by the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) aimed at simplifying the medical treatment process for workers injured at work. Announced by Human Resources Minister YB Steven Sim Chee Keong during a Chinese New Year event in Penang, the initiative removes the requirement for workers to pay out of pocket when seeking treatment at PERKESO’s panel clinics.

Under the previous system, workers had to pay between RM150 to RM200 per visit for treatment, and then submit a claim for reimbursement from PERKESO. The new arrangement now allows workers to receive treatment at any of the 1,400 PERKESO panel clinics nationwide without having to make upfront payments. Instead, the clinics will directly claim the costs from PERKESO.

FMM strongly supports this initiative, as it makes medical care more accessible and alleviates the financial burden on workers. By removing the need for upfront payments, the process ensures that workers can receive treatment without delay and focus on their recovery, which helps to minimize disruptions to their work. This improvement benefits both employees and employers by promoting faster treatment and reducing financial strain.

The initiative aligns with FMM’s ongoing efforts to advocate for policies that balance the well-being of workers with the needs of the industry. By enhancing access to medical treatment, businesses can manage workplace health more effectively, contributing to a safer and more productive workforce.

FMM looks forward to continuing its collaboration with PERKESO and the Ministry of Human Resources to improve worker protection programs. We also encourage manufacturers to inform their employees about this new process to ensure seamless access to essential medical care.
