Teluk Intan, 27 February 2025 – HELP University is empowering Malaysia’s workforce and contributing to nation-building with the launch of an innovative initiative through its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) division. In collaboration with the Hilir Perak District Education Office and Majlis Guru Kaunseling Kebangsaan (Teluk Intan), HELP University is enhancing TVET programmes across 14 schools in the Teluk Intan region. This initiative provides students with alternative pathways to vocational education, equipping them with the essential skills for successful careers in the technical workforce.
The initiative will involve funding to develop and improve TVET programmes in these schools, ensuring that students receive hands-on training aligned with current industry demands. This strategic support will help students gain relevant resources and tools to excel in their vocational education, preparing them for meaningful careers and contributing to the nation’s technical expertise.
Since its inception in 2014, HELP TVET has been committed to offering a curriculum that blends theory and practice. Students benefit from partnerships with industry leaders, including CKL Group of Companies (Lim Tayar), WD-40, Aston Martin Kuala Lumpur, Pensonic, Nippon Paint, Shell Malaysia, Cuckoo, Daikin, and Bosch. These collaborations provide students with real-world exposure, preparing them for the workforce and enhancing their employability.
The curriculum is structured with a 30% theoretical component, where students learn core principles, and a 70% practical training focus, immersing them in workshop environments equipped with state-of-the-art tools and technology. This hands-on experience ensures that students are job-ready, with a solid understanding of both the technical aspects and real-world application of their skills.
Career guidance is another key element of HELP TVET’s approach. Graduates receive ongoing support, including job placement assistance, career consultations, and networking opportunities, all designed to ensure a smooth transition into their chosen industries. With specialized training in automotive and electrical industries, graduates are well-prepared for careers as car mechanics, light vehicle technicians, or electrical industry professionals.
Datuk Azhar Jamaludin, Chairman of the Teluk Intan Education Foundation, expressed strong support for the initiative, saying, “We are proud of our longstanding partnership with HELP University and its efforts in equipping students in Hilir Perak with industry-relevant skills. Through this collaboration, we ensure that graduates are ready to enter the workforce with confidence. HELP’s generous donation and commitment to promoting TVET in Teluk Intan play a crucial role in bridging education and employment.”
HELP University’s Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Paul Chan, also emphasized the importance of an entrepreneurial mindset in vocational education. “Just training isn’t enough,” he said. “We need to help students think and act entrepreneurially, enabling them to create startups as part of their training program.” Professor Chan recently launched the Centre for Humane Entrepreneurship, supported by the ICSB (International Council of Small Businesses) and the Mayor of Jenju, South Korea, to further enhance the entrepreneurial focus of HELP University’s initiatives.
Through this partnership and continued financial support, HELP University reaffirms its dedication to expanding access to high-quality vocational education, addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals, and contributing to Malaysia’s economic development.
