The Interport Balikpapan Project is set to transform Kalimantan into a pivotal logistics hub in Indonesia, driving trade and boosting the local economy. This significant infrastructure expansion, launched in 2020, aims to improve the capacity and operational efficiency of the Port of Balikpapan, aligning with the Indonesian government’s broader initiative to modernize its ports and strengthen the country’s logistics network.

A recent key development in the project involves Sarens, a global leader in heavy lifting, engineered transport, and crane rental services, joining the port’s expansion efforts. Sarens was tasked with installing a 103-ton deodorizer unit at the port, designed to improve air quality by reducing odors in the area, and ensuring compliance with local environmental standards.

Sarens’ Role in Enhancing Port Infrastructure

To support this installation, Sarens mobilized a CC2500 crane from Cilegon (Java Island) via barge, which worked in coordination with an LR1250 crane provided by PT. Interport for final adjustments. Both cranes, capable of lifting weights over 103 tons to a height of 60 meters and with a 22-meter radius, are pivotal in handling the heavy load. A dedicated team of 10 Sarens professionals, including crane operators, riggers, and safety personnel, executed this complex operation, ensuring timely delivery and efficient performance.

Isa Syarif, Country Manager for Sarens in Indonesia, commented, “Our ability to deploy the right crane from our extensive international fleet to meet the unique needs of this project has been a major factor in ensuring the success of this operation. We are proud to contribute to the timely delivery of this important infrastructure project.”
