KUALA LUMPUR, 17 December 2024 – The Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) concluded the third edition of the Islamic Tourism Month 2024 (ITM 2024) with a resounding success. The month-long initiative, which ran from 16 August to 30 September 2024, showcased Malaysia’s leadership in Islamic Tourism and Muslim-Friendly Tourism and Hospitality (MFTH), captivating local and international audiences.
The impactful wrap-up was marked by an Industry Appreciation High Tea at Seri Pacific Hotel, graced by YBhg. Dato’ Shaharuddin Abu Sohot, Deputy Secretary General (Management) of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC). Representing Deputy Minister YB Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, he commended the efforts of ITC and its 200 strategic partners, emphasizing their vital role in promoting Malaysia’s Islamic tourism ecosystem.
Driving Growth in the Muslim Tourism Market
Islamic Tourism Month exemplifies sustainability, innovation, and harmony, aligning with the government’s Malaysia MADANI vision. The global Muslim travel market is projected to reach 230 million arrivals by 2028, generating USD 225 billion in expenditure, positioning Malaysia as a leader in this rapidly growing sector,” stated Dato’ Shaharuddin.
ITM 2024 featured an array of activities, including the popular Mosque Open Day, exclusive hotel deals, wellness packages, and discounts across retail outlets. These initiatives offered enriching cultural and tourism experiences, underscoring Malaysia’s dynamic MFTH ecosystem.
Celebrating Excellence at ITM 2024
This year’s highlights included the 4th World Islamic Tourism Conference (4th WITC), held from 12 to 13 September 2024 at Sunway Resort Hotel, drawing 500 delegates and 30 prominent speakers to discuss innovations and trends in the Muslim travel market.
The ITM 2024 TikTok Challenge also gained traction, with creative entries celebrating Malaysia’s scenic landscapes and cultural heritage. Grand prize winner Mohamad Hakim Mohd Edris (@Akim) received a prize worth RM22,000, including Umrah packages for two.
A Call for Industry Collaboration
ITC Director-General Nizran Noordin expressed gratitude to ITM 2024 partners, urging more industry players to participate in MFTH programs, such as the Muslim-Friendly Tourism and Hospitality Assurance and Recognition (MFAR) and Muslim-Friendly Tourist Guide (MFTG) initiatives.
“ITC is committed to expanding Malaysia’s MFTH ecosystem. Together, we can propel Islamic Tourism to greater heights,” Nizran affirmed.
