KUALA LUMPUR, 25 March 2025 – The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), under the Ministry of Digital, has announced the launch of a RM1.5 billion fund to drive nationwide digitalisation efforts for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This initiative, established through strategic public-private partnerships, will provide digital solutions and financing support to empower MSMEs in embracing digital transformation.
The Business Digitalisation Initiative (BDI) was unveiled today with the presence of Minister of Digital YB Gobind Singh Deo, who emphasized the initiative’s commitment to enabling MSMEs to achieve greater productivity and operational efficiency.
“This initiative represents a ‘whole-of-nation’ approach to ensure that MSMEs have access to digital solutions, financing opportunities, and expert guidance. Through BDI, the MADANI Government is accelerating digital adoption and fostering inclusive growth, allowing businesses of all sizes to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving digital economy,” said Gobind.
Comprehensive Support for MSMEs
A series of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were formalized between MDEC, SME Corp. Malaysia, financial institutions, digital banks, peer-to-peer (P2P) lending platforms, and local service providers to deliver a holistic support ecosystem for MSMEs. This collaboration ensures access to funding, digital tools, and capacity-building initiatives tailored to their digital transformation needs.
MDEC Chief Executive Officer Anuar Fariz Fadzil highlighted that the BDI aims to uplift MSMEs by enhancing their resilience, competitiveness, and long-term growth through meaningful digital adoption.
“This initiative addresses real business challenges, including skill gaps, lack of funding, and digital uncertainty. Our approach includes targeted support, strategic partnerships, access to financing, and affordable e-invoicing solutions built on the Peppol framework. These efforts make digitalisation more accessible while equipping MSMEs to scale both locally and globally,” said Anuar.
Strengthening Digital Awareness and Adoption
SME Corp. Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Rizal bin Dato’ Nainy reinforced the agency’s commitment to enhancing digitalisation awareness among MSMEs through collaborative efforts with MDEC.
“Our role is to ensure that MSMEs are not left behind in the digital economy. By working with MDEC, we are creating a cohesive and targeted ecosystem that tackles the real barriers MSMEs face, enabling them to embrace digital transformation effectively,” said Rizal.
As part of this initiative, 21 MDEC-accredited e-invoicing service providers will offer freemium and affordable e-invoicing solutions, further supporting MSMEs in their transition to digital operations.
The event was attended by key stakeholders, including Secretary-General of the Ministry of Digital Ybhg. Fabian Bigar, SME Corp. Malaysia CEO Rizal bin Dato’ Nainy, and various industry leaders.
