The Association is Pioneering Bilateral Trade and Sustainable Growth Between Malaysia and Cambodia.
Kuala Lumpur, 27 November 2024 – The Malaysia-Cambodia Business Association (MCBA) marked its second anniversary with a grand gala dinner at the HGH Convention Centre, Sentul KL. The evening’s highlight was the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with five distinguished strategic partners, signalling a pivotal step in strengthening the economic ties between Malaysia and Cambodia.
With nearly 800 attendees from nations including China, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Cambodia, the event showcased MCBA’s dedication to fostering international business relationships. The collaboration is expected to bolster bilateral trade between Malaysia and Cambodia, which reached RM2.35 billion in 2024, a 1.6% increase from the previous year.
The MoU was signed by six key leaders from influential organisations:
- Dato’ Sri Hoogle Ng, Secretary General, MCBA
- Neak Oknha Te Taing Por, National President, Federation of Associations for SMEs of Cambodia (FASMEC)
- Mr. Chin Chee Seong, National President, SME Malaysia
- YBhg. Datuk Seri KK Chai, National President, Malaysia Chinese Assembly Hall (MCAH)
- Datuk Seri Dr. Robert Lim, National President, Associated Zong Xiang and Chinese Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (ZXCCC)
- Adjunct Practice Professor Cheah Kok Hoong, National President, ESG Association Malaysia
This strategic alliance aims to establish a thriving business ecosystem that drives innovation, facilitates investment, promotes SMEs, fosters technology transfer, and supports environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives.
MCBA president Datuk Seri Dr. Ricky Yaw emphasised the potential for SMEs to flourish under this new partnership. While Cambodia is home to several large corporations in industries like banking and telecommunications, SMEs remain underrepresented. Datuk Seri Dr. Yaw expressed optimism that these agreements will inspire confidence among MCBA members to expand their investments and trade activities in Cambodia.
The association envisions these partnerships as a catalyst for its members to access valuable resources and execute strategic plans effectively. By leveraging shared expertise and networks, MCBA aims to drive sustainable economic growth while providing an essential platform for networking, advocacy, and information sharing on a global stage.
As MCBA continues to advance its mission of enhancing bilateral trade and supporting economic development, this milestone signifies a renewed commitment to strengthening Malaysia-Cambodia ties and fostering collaborative opportunities for businesses in both nations.
