Rolls-Royce Motor Cars proudly presents Phantom Cherry Blossom, a highly Bespoke, one-of-one Phantom Extended commission inspired by the fleeting beauty of Sakura season and the centuries-old Japanese tradition of Hanami – the practice of viewing cherry blossoms in spring.
This exquisite commission was born from a Japanese client’s desire to honour cherished memories of Hanami shared across generations. The result is a stunning expression of personal legacy and artistic craftsmanship, brought to life through an unprecedented application of embroidery and design innovation.
“Cherry blossoms are cherished in Japan as a symbol of the ephemeral nature of life and the beauty of transience. With this magnificent commission, we translate an internationally renowned moment into our pinnacle motor car, Phantom, with exquisite embroidery comprising more than 250,000 stitches,” said Martina Starke, General Manager, Bespoke Design, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.
“For the first time at Rolls-Royce, we have applied three-dimensional embroidery that gives the falling flower petals a tactile, sculptural quality. Developed using ancient Japanese stitching techniques, this motor car represents a deeply personal memory for the client and demonstrates the power of Bespoke in uniting individual meaning, heritage craftsmanship and modern artistry.”

A Floral Sanctuary: The Interior Story
Inside Phantom Cherry Blossom, the client’s vision of sitting beneath a flowering Sakura tree is realized through extraordinary craftsmanship. A Bespoke Starlight Headliner is adorned with a cherry bough embroidered in white blossom, while delicate falling petals cascade across the rear doors and Privacy Suite partition.
Over six months of design and development culminated in this intricate, immersive interior. The Starlight Headliner alone took three weeks to embroider and features more than 250,000 stitches, executed with an offset tatami stitch technique inspired by ancient Japanese weaving. Eleven individually embroidered panels were seamlessly aligned by a single artisan to create a continuous floral graphic that flows across the cabin.
Rolls-Royce First: Sculptural 3D Embroidery
Marking a milestone in Rolls-Royce craftsmanship, Phantom Cherry Blossom features the marque’s first-ever application of three-dimensional embroidery. Cherry blossom petals, sculpted from layered thread, are positioned on the partition wall to interact beautifully with interior lighting, casting soft, naturalistic shadows and delivering an extraordinary tactile experience.
Subtle Elegance: Exterior and Hidden Details
The Hanami inspiration carries through to the exterior and finer details. The Crystal over Arctic White paint is accentuated by a hand-painted coachline, which delicately tapers along the rear passenger door and culminates in a refined cherry blossom motif. Even the umbrellas, concealed within the motor car’s doors, feature a falling petal design on their inner lining—further evidence of Rolls-Royce’s commitment to storytelling through detail.
Celebrating a Century of Phantom
This extraordinary commission arrives during a milestone year for Rolls-Royce, as the Phantom nameplate celebrates its centenary in 2025. Phantom Cherry Blossom is a fitting tribute to the legacy of this iconic model—uniting personal heritage, artistic mastery, and the enduring philosophy of Bespoke craftsmanship.
